Certification course

AIS Certification CourseBecome a certified AIS Practitionner

The Stretch Certification program gives suitable candidates a chance to become an A.I.S. Practitioner and an opportunity to build their experience with Stretch Asia.

This course requires a good level of Anatomy and Physiology, so it is more suitable for graduates of a health/ fitness related degree, massage therapists, personal trainers or physical therapists. This course will enhance your skills in practitioner-assisted active stretching and will enable you to achieve greatest results with your clients or patients.

The Stretch Certification program consists of an intensive training that will teach you the correct AIS protocoles, as developed by Aaron Mattes in the Mattes Method, and how to effectively perform them. It will be followed by 2 to 3 weeks of supervised practice for you to build the 40 hours of hands-on experience required to graduate. It is possible to extend the duration of the practice period, should you require more time to log these 40 hours of practice.

Ais trainingThe Stretch Certification Course – Level 1 consists of:

– 40 to 80 hours of training with a master trainer

– 40 logged supervised practice sessions of Active Isolated Stretching in our open plan studio

– Observation and practice with our team of experienced therapists

– Written test and Practical examination.

Through this course, we want you to thoroughly learn both the theory and the practical aspects of Active Isolated Stretching.

At the end of the course, you will understand and be able to communicate what Active Isolated Stretching is and how it works, and be proficient at giving Assisted Stretching and Strengthening treatments to clients.

Upon graduation, we will give you the opportunity to do an internship for 6 months, during which you will be able to build your experience with paying clients. You will receive a commission during this time. Ideally you will go on and work at Stretch Asia for a longer period of time, to refine your skills and continue your education in more advanced techniques, on the job, treating specific symptoms and learning more about the biomechanics of the human body.

Stretch Asia is the only clinic in Asia solely dedicated to Active Isolated Stretching and Strengthening and the power of our team of highly experienced therapists is here for you to tap on, in order to become the best therapist you can be.

 Pre-requisites for candidates

To learn Active Isolated Stretching, one needs to have a very good anatomical understanding of the musculoskeletal system as the technique specifically focuses on stretching isolated muscles. To some degree, an Active Isolated Stretching session is somewhat like a puzzle for the therapist who must decipher symptoms and the presenting body, coming up with a plan of action and then executing that, regularly having to adjust as the body responds and changes. Having excellent knowledge of the human body is essential.

Experience in body work will assist this entire process and give you the confidence to work with people in this extremely hands on therapy.

 Application process

If you are interested in training with us, reserve your space now if the dates of our next certification course fit in your schedule, or email us  your resume with a letter of motivation so we can determine if this course is right for you. The course is open to everyone who fits the pre-requisites mentioned earlier. However, an job opportunity will only be offered to the best students.

The actual training requires you to be in the clinic at least 20 hours a week after the initial course. You will receive 40 to 80 hours of formal training with a master trainer (depending how fast you learn) over an 7-12 day period and then spend the majority of your time, after that, observing, listening to and assisting Senior Stretch therapists. You will have treatments done to you so you know exactly what it feels like and you will practice on selective clients, under supervision of a certified therapist, and on team members themselves. (you are welcome to invite friends and family members to practice on). We will keep a log of the hours you attend at the clinic and the practical experience you have, logging a minimum of 40 hours of hands on experience.

Assessment at the end of the course

So that we know you are adequately trained and ready to become a fully fledged Active Isolated Practitioner, we require that you’re assessed in all areas of Active Isolated Stretching. There will be a brief written test on anatomy and physiology just so we can confirm your knowledge as it is so important for your certification. A practical test will be conducted on both our Team Leader and our Clinic Manager. Finally you will receive an evaluation and constructive feedback for your future progress, and to determine if you are ready to join our team of certified Stretch Therapists.

The cost of the Certification Course is HK$ 40,000 (~USD 5,000) and must be settled before the course begins, by cash or credit card. Books are available to support you and can be purchased at the clinic. If you live overseas, and come to Hong Kong specifically to attend the course, we can assist you in finding shared accommodation for the duration of your training, should you require our assistance. For the time being, the course is only available in Hong Kong. So you will have to travel here.

Training Certificate

Upon graduation, you will receive a certificate of successful completion of the course, displaying the amount of training hours along with the amount of practice you have logged in. You will also be listed on our website, as a certified Stretch Therapist (we are building this list right now, so bear with us 🙂 ).

 Job opportunities

We will offer a full time or part-time position as a Stretch Therapist/Flexibility Trainer to the most talented and most motivated candidates.
